The Anderson C. Bouchelle Study Center and Gallery for International Decorative Arts

History of the Anderson C. Bouchelle Study Center and Gallery for International Decorative Arts
The Anderson C. Bouchelle Study Center and Gallery for International Decorative Arts was established to showcase the Museum’s collection of decorative arts from around the world. Named in honor of Anderson C. Bouchelle, the gallery became a dedicated space for the study and exhibition of fine and functional objects, including furniture, metalwork, glass, and other decorative forms.

Over time, the gallery presented a wide range of objects spanning multiple centuries and regions, highlighting the craftsmanship, design, and cultural influences that shaped decorative arts traditions. Its dual role as both a study center and exhibition space provided visitors with opportunities for closer engagement and deeper understanding of the materials, techniques, and artistry behind each piece.

Through its thoughtfully arranged displays, the Bouchelle Gallery played an important role in interpreting decorative arts within a broader historical and cultural context, offering insight into how beauty and function intersect across time and place.
